WA; Power to be restored to flooded town

A West Australian town cut off by flood waters for almost a week will have power restored
today after a technician was flown in by helicopter.

Western Power was yesterday forced to shut down the power station at Nullagine, in
the state's north-west, after water began seeping underneath cable units.

The Nullagine river peaked at almost four metres about midday (WST) yesterday after
breaking its banks on Thursday last week.

The flood waters were the result of heavy rainfall brought to the region by two tropical
low pressure systems.

Western Power spokesman PETER WINNER says a technician will check out the power station
and ensure that the water hasn't done any damage.

Mr WINNER says power could be restored to Nullagine by mid-afternoon if no damage is detected.

A local caravan park, some private homes and a roadhouse have all been damaged during
almost five days of flooding.
