Vic: Firefighters in industrial commission over discipline row
MELBOURNE, April 2 AAP - Melbourne firefighters are taking the fire brigade to theAustralian Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC) today in a challenge to the brigade'sdisciplinary processes.
Firefighters have threatened to walk off the job in protest against a disciplinaryprocess the United Firefighters Union (UFU) says is designed to "instil fear in the workforce".
UFU Victorian secretary Peter Marshall warned that the union could be in for a longdispute and said industrial action was likely.
Five officers are facing disciplinary charges related to using private email, refusingto take down an allegedly offensive sign and an altercation between two firefighters.
Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) assistant chief fire officer Keith Adamson said theonly people who had anything to fear from the disciplinary process were those who deliberatelyopposed workplace regulations.
