FED: Costello says the GST will not increase petrol price

Federal Treasurer PETER COSTELLO has vowed that petrol prices won't go up under the GST.

The promise comes despite rising world prices and a review of fuel excise due next year.

Mr COSTELLO has told the Nine Network the government will reduce the excise so that
when the GST comes in, the price of petrol won't change.
