'I didn't see him' -- dad's pickup kills son: Toddler fatally injured as truck backs up in front of S.E. Side home

Julia Lopez will always remember the screams that erupted when herhusband backed up his pickup truck to make room for a driver tosqueeze past.

"The boy! The boy!" shrieked a woman in the vehicle behind herhusband.

Lopez's husband jumped out and found their 15-month-old son,William, unconscious on the pavement in the 8900 block of SouthMuskegon on the Southeast Side on Friday.

"My husband picked him up from the street and brought him into thehouse," said Lopez, 25. "He was saying, 'I didn't see him. I didn'tsee him.' "

The pickup truck did not run over the toddler, but his skull wasfractured, police said. He was pronounced dead at 12:35 p.m. …
